Volunteer Opportunities

The best donation you can give is your time. Volunteerism is the most important part of The Urban Connection. You bring the love of Christ with you when you serve your neighbors in need, and the relationships you build or immediate needs that you provide, through coffee or clothing, can literally make all the difference in a person’s life.

There is no time or task obligation at Urban Connection. Rather we work with volunteers and welcome them to serve however they feel comfortable.
There is a service opportunity for every kind of volunteer! At Urban Connection, you can take part in any of the following:

Street Outreach

Not your typical street evangelism. Instead of handing out tracts and preaching on the streets, you’ll go out and spend time conversing with Skid Row residents, then invite them back to our facility for coffee and further conversation.

Guest Counseling

You’ll sit down with individual Skid Row residents, learn their stories, find out their needs, and work to connect them with providers who can help them.

Barista at the Coffee Bar

You’ll make sure that there’s enough coffee, cups, sugar, and creamer for the residents and volunteers. You’ll also strike up conversations with guests and learn their stories as you help serve them.

Clothes Closet

You’ll help sort and organize clothes for our clothes closet, keeping things neat and orderly. When guests arrive, you’ll help show them the clothes and shoes that meet their needs.

Work Projects

If you have special skills in painting, construction, or any other specialty area, we could use your help! Whether you’re helping wire our sound system, building bunks for our overflow shelter, or laying down a fresh coat of paint, you’ll be helping the Urban Connection to be an inviting place for the residents of Skid Row.

Worship

Do you play an instrument or sing? Come put on a worship concert for our guests! We’ve got the stage, sound system, instruments and lights… all we need is you!

Bible Studies

Are you a pastor or bible teacher? Come use our stage to teach God’s word to our guests and volunteers!
*Must be approved by Urban Connection staff.

At The Urban Connection we know that everyone has a special and different God-given talent. For that reason, we welcome those who would like to serve in alternative, creative ways.
