Kasey Coleman and Cory Miller’s Experience at Urban Connection

My name is Kasey Coleman and I am volunteer here at UC. I got involved with UC through Bob Engel at World Impact. As I was standing in the room, a man approached me and started talking to me. His name was Joseph and he said he we looking for Antonio. I said I didn’t know where he was and that he should check back later. He then started telling me his story and how he ended up out on the streets. He was originally from San Diego and came out here to visit his family, who could not be located once he arrived. He was then stuck here because he was unable to save enough money for the train ride back. He came into UC to try and get a travel voucher to get a ride back to San Diego where he was already receiving financial aid and had an apartment. We then brought him in and went through the whole interview process to try and determine how to best help him. We will know more on Monday as to how much help he will be provided, as Antonio plans to try and works things out to help him as much as possible.

Hey, my name is Cory Miller, and like Kasey, I volunteered here this weekend. When we came back to get Joe’s information, I was able to meet him and talk with him about his life and where he’d been and what he wants to do. I was and am concerned for his mental health, as some of the stories he related to me about his past brought some various concerning aspects of it to my attention. Towards the end of our meeting we were able to pray for some of Joe’s needs, and in turn he blessed us by praying for the three of us in turn, something I didn’t expect. It was a huge blessing, and I hope and pray that it is the Lord’s will to move in Joe’s life and heart and provide him with the things that he needs, emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
