Why We Are Here

Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. -Acts 3:6-8

Like Peter, we desire to help those who cannot help themselves by connecting them with the love of Christ and with others who can get them back on their feet.

For this reason, we DO NOT offer money, shelter, or food to the homeless. Rather, we seek first and foremost to connect them with the Gospel.

We do, however, act as a resource and community center. We endeavor to help those who would help themselves by directing them to all the providers they need in order to regain a healthy control of their lives and discover the saving grace of Jesus Christ — when their hearts are ready to accept both.

By serving, providing for, and loving those who have lost their way on Skid Row, we in turn serve and love Jesus Christ (Matthew 25: 34-40). Christ has not called us to occasional volunteerism, but to a life of service to others. For this reason, Urban Connection has established a permanent home on Skid Row, allowing Christians to move from a place of seeing and hearing to a life of doing, bringing the Gospel to those who desperately need it.
