About Us

The Urban Connection is a nonprofit Christian ministry and community resource center located in the heart of Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles.

As our name implies, we are all about connections.

We connect homeless to resources. Through our Guest Counseling service, we sit with homeless guests in a one-on-one, personal setting to uncover their needs and goals so that we can connect them with local providers and resources. We connect them to services that help with their immediate needs, things like dental and clothing, to more long-term needs meant to get back them onto their feet in permanent ways, such as recovery, housing or employment programs.

We connect Christians to those in need. By providing volunteers with a safe place to meet, build relationships, and share their faith with the homeless, we offer an urban ministry opportunity where churches and organizations can use our building and infrastructure as a base for their outreach.

We connect the Skid Row community to the outside world through our Urban Connection Social Network. By creating blogs for homeless guests to record their experiences, we link their stories to people all over the world through our online social network. This allows anyone with internet access to read real-life stories of those struggling to survive and get off Skid Row. Our site connects anyone to the heart and soul of those suffering on the streets of Los Angeles, and allows them to keep in touch and show their support even from afar. And for those who have volunteered and made relationships with homeless guests, it’s a place where they can continue their connections beyond the streets of Skid Row.

We connect people to the love of Christ. Homeless guests and volunteers do not have to be Christians to be served and to serve at Urban Connection. However, it is our hope that by seeing the glory of God through their relationships, through helping their neighbor, and by attending our services, they will accept Christ into their hearts.
